What is Ripple?

Ripple (XRP) is unique as it serves both as a digital payment protocol and a cryptocurrency. Launched in 2012, it is designed to facilitate fast and low-cost international payments. Ripple’s technology is used by banks and payment providers to improve cross-border transactions, functioning much like the SWIFT system but with significantly faster processing times. Unlike traditional cryptocurrencies that use mining to validate transactions, Ripple employs a consensus mechanism, which makes it more efficient and environmentally friendly. Is XRP safe? +

XRP itself is a public network — no single company runs it, which is part of what makes it trustworthy. The risk people usually mean is price: XRP can move sharply in a single day. Only put in what you'd be comfortable losing while you learn.

Is XRP a good investment for beginners? +

No one can promise that — XRP's price can rise or fall sharply, and past performance is never a guarantee. What you can control is how you invest: many beginners buy a small amount on a regular schedule (called dollar-cost averaging) instead of trying to time the market, and only invest what they can afford to lose.
